Thanksgiving Party Ideas!

Image result for thanksgiving party

If your social media is flooded with red Starbucks cups and your senses are overwhelmed with minty evergreen and cinnamon scents, don’t be alarmed, it means the holidays are officially here! Hosting Thanksgiving this year? Here are a few fun game ideas, so you can share the memories at the next family gathering!

  1. Shake your tailfeather!

You may also know this game as the tissue box game, but we added a Thanksgiving flare. Empty a tissue box for each player and replace the tissues with craft feathers. Tape a pair of pantyhose or thick ribbon onto each box so the box is in the middle of the pantyhose. To play, give each player a box tied with pantyhose and have them tie the pantyhose around their waist so the tissue box is on their backside. Players must move around and shake, shake, shake until all of the feathers fall out of their tissue box. First person to empty out all the feathers wins!

  1. Feast or Football

Give each player mini footballs and line up a bunch of large pots and pans, on the other side of the room, all at varying lengths. Dishes toward the back of the room are worth 7 points, dishes in the middle are worth 3, and dishes closest to the players are worth 1 point. Players have one minute to throw the footballs into the dishes, scoring as many points as possible . Or have teams play simultaneously by using different colored footballs, and see who can get to 21 points first.

  1. Thanksgiving dinner

This is great game which tests your memory and requires very little physical activity, perfect for the post-meal recovery! Everyone gets together and sits in a circle. The first person starts off by saying “At Thanksgiving I like to eat turkey.” Then the next person says the same thing but adds another dish. This continues all the way around the circle with each person reciting the dishes in the exact order they have been given and then adding a new one. If a player makes a mistake they slide out of the circle and the game continues. The person left who can perfectly recite the Thanksgiving menu wins.

We hope these games spice up your Thanksgiving party! Stay tuned for next week’s blog 🙂

Did you know? Leprechaun Edition!

It’s the luckiest week of the year! Since St. Patrick’s Day was this week, many people and cities celebrated with their green outfits, temporary four-leaf clover tattoos, and a beverage…or two.

One of the most famous figures associated with St. Patrick’s Day is the Leprechaun! For mythical creatures, there is a lot to learn about them and their little world! Hopefully knowing more about them will help us get closer to a pot of gold or the chance to make three wishes!

They are always dressed to the nine!

They are always wearing suits, a hat, and maybe even smoking a cigar with their fancy attire. But they may not always be wearing green, sometimes you can catch them wearing red!

They live in a large network of caves!

It’s a leprechaun’s nightmare to be captured by a human! Often the entrances to their caves are disguised as rabbit holes or tree hollows…be careful not to damage them or that’s a lifetime of bad luck!

They love music!

Leprechauns know how to have a good time! They play various instruments like tin whistles, fiddles and the Irish harp. They have a few dance moves up their sleeves too.

So, if you come across a pot of gold, just remember that sharing is caring! Hope you all had a fun St. Patty’s Day!

Supporting a Great Cause!

Last Sunday, on June 7th Crystal Auto Mall was one of the  sponsors at the American Diabetes Association Tour De Cure, a national biking event hosted in cities across the US, to raise money for continued research to find a cure, prevent, and help educate about diabetes.  Individual riders and teams biked up to 100 miles, raising as much money as possible for their family and friends that are diagnosed.

I volunteered to be a SAG (Support and Gear) vehicle driver. Tony, another volunteer, was partnered with me as we drove through Basking Ridge, helping to transport weary drivers and broken bikes.

Crystal donated the use of a certified pre-owned 4- door Tacoma, which was the perfect vehicle because we were able to easily pack equipment and multiple bikes in the bed, while the riders comfortably sat in the back seats.

This Tacoma comes with a back-up camera and touch display screen. Considering the number of k-turns I had to do that day, navigating unfamiliar roads, you can best believe that the back-up camera came in super handy.

I was thankful the truck came with a USB port to keep my phone charged to ensure it had enough battery life to take plenty of pictures. We also hooked up our dispatch radio in the power outlet, so we could coordinate with the staff  which locations to pick up riders from.

Many of the inside roads we traveled on in Basking Ridge had many potholes, but they were not match for the Tacoma’s 16 inch styled wheels.

The Tour De Cure was a huge success; it rose over a quarter of a million dollars! Over 500 riders with their family and friends attended. I had a great time meeting some of them and hearing the inspirational stories of people who are currently fighting diabetes.  And with free Chipotle for lunch, we all had a very fulfilling day.

Our prizes were a huge hit with riders and their supporters. We were happy to give away a complimentary pair of tickets to Dinner with the Boys, an Off-Broadway show in New York and a $50 gas gift card.

We are honored to have been part of such a great cause, helping make a difference in people’s lives and supporting our local community.

We look forward to continue supporting the ADA and their future events!
