As many of you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we are happy to join the efforts in raising awareness!
Somerset County had their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Kick-Off and I was excited to celebrate with our community.
The speakers were amazing and inspiring! Dr. Kathleen Toomey of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital spoke about her recent research, improvements in treatment options, and her future expectations. She explained that not everyone needs radiation, and with early detection, doctors can use other methods to treat dangerous cells. She closed by saying, “I want to put me out of business; I want to be out of business.”
Following Dr. Kathleen, two survivors shared their stories with the crowd. Marian was the first to go up, and after she finished, there was not a dry eye in the crowd. She explained how Zufall Health, who hosted the event, helped her receive her yearly mammogram and treatments despite not having insurance.
It was a great opportunity to show support for our local community and breast cancer fighters, as we continue to support the cause to find a cure.
